Facility Space Design, Function & Wellbeing
Our space design philosophy starts with LEED and WELL Building Standards.
What is LEED?
LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is the most widely used green building rating system in the world. LEED provides a framework for healthy, highly efficient, and cost-saving green buildings.
What is WELL?
WELL is a performance-based system for measuring, certifying, and monitoring features of the built environment that impact human health and well-being, through air, water, nourishment, light, fitness, comfort, and mind. WELL is grounded in a body of medical research that explores the connection between the buildings where we spend more than 90 percent of our time, and the health and wellness impact on us as occupants. WELL standards help create an environment that improves the nutrition, fitness, mood, sleep patterns and performance of its occupants.
How does space design improve wellbeing?
Evidence suggests that access to rich blue lighting during the day stabilizes circadian rhythms, improves cognitive functions and alertness and is beneficial to health. While exposure to warmer lighting in the evening and at night can improve behavior, mood and increase sleep quality. Beyond this, we ensure that the environment is a destination of healing achieved through scale, texture, and contrast— promoting lightness, brightness, and airiness.
